Personality:

You will never find anyone as enthusiastic as Russell. While he's a bit accident-prone, he eagerly faces every task he's given. Unless it's exceedingly boring, of course. All his energy goes away in that case--he's still a kid, after all! But like most other kids, he tends to whine or complain when he doesn't get his way, and, if pushed hard enough, he'll stubbornly disobey and rebel. In most cases, though, he's a good boy. Just as he is loyal to the Wilderness Scouts, so too is he loyal to his moral code: he cares for all people, animals, and plants. He's helpful and kind-hearted and will often go out of his way for another person, especially if he cares for them. Overall, he's an open-hearted person and will always be there with a smile.
Russell is bright for his age. He's a whiz at facts and figures that can be attained from books, but actual technical skill is something that he lacks. He's still pretty inexperienced, but after his adventure at Paradise Falls, he's definitely improved a lot. He does, however, have an immense and insatiable curiosity. Everything, and I mean everything, interests him. (That being said, anything breakable, flammable, and otherwise not easily operated by a clumsy 9-year-old should be kept very very far away from him.) While his questions can get obnoxious, there are always good intentions behind them.
Though he doesn't always show it openly, Russell is easily hurt. If he puts his trust in a person, he expects at least something in return; denying even the smallest show of affection will break his heart. He's definitely eager to please those he loves.

AU Background:
   Russell was born in Radiant Garden to a stay-at-home mother and a perpetually busy father. His father, a successful businessman working at one of the largest companies on Buena Vista, made enough money to offer his son and wife a comfortable life, but this came at the cost of his love and attention. By the time Russell was seven, his father (now sky-high on the corporate ladder and involved with another woman) was never around for his family, rarely offering even a short phone call.
   Seeking an outlet for her son, Russell's mother encouraged him to get more involved with school and the Wilderness Explorers, which he had been a member of for a year or so beforehand. He excelled in school and was an active, enthusiastic Wilderness Explorer. When he needed his Assisting the Elderly badge, he sought out the grumpy old man of the neighborhood, Carl Fredricksen; the events of the movie Up occur as they did in the original canon, with Paradise Falls being located in Deep Jungle.
   After a few happy months, the black mist began to appear around his neighborhood. It wasn't long before he received an invitation to the Academy. Encouraged by his mother to find somewhere safe from the mist and by Carl to seek out the adventure he was sure to have there, he accepted. (Carl dropped him off at the island via airship. Best grandpa-dad ever or BEST grandpa-dad ever?)

Appearance:
   Russell always keeps his school uniform in tip-top shape--it's a habit he's kept since his days as a Wilderness Explorer. Apart from clothing, he's a short, chubby little Asian boy: squishy cheeks, short black hair. Most days he lugs around his backpack with...more gear than is necessary, really, and he will occasionally wear his patches around. That's about it.

Greatest Fear:
   Russell's greatest fear is to be alone. Friendship and family are very important to him, and losing that...is not okay with him. (There's a bit on that in the personality too, I think. ;; )

   Hiccup - ROOOOMIES. They haven't had many roomiebonding moments yet, but Russell likes him. (Then again, he likes everybody.)

   Toothless - Normally, Russell would be PSYCHED to get to know a dragon, but oh God that thing tried to eat him aaaaah

   Helga - Miss Sinclair is, to him, a really cool teacher! Which is great! He's definitely going to do his best in her class. Except for the part where he's probably going to whine forever.

   Beckett - He's absolutely clueless to the fact that Beckett does NOT like him. Russell just thinks he's weird and has funny hair.

   Mulan - She's that one girl whose name he hasn't learned yet who can blow stuff up. Awesome.

   Scar - Russell loves animals. Scar is a talking teacher lion. Russell will never not be fascinated.

   Shang - While Russell is puzzled by his frequent lack-of-shirt, he does get the feeling he's a good guy.

   Cogsworth - TALKING CLOCK, COOL--wait, he's a teacher? ...That's kinda cool.

   Dolly - Mostly the same as Cogsworth. She's his favorite teacher so far--Russell thinks she's very nice.

   Hug all you want! He has a hugging icon for a reason! He still thinks girls are gross, though, so no KISSING-kissing. If you kiss him on the cheek or the forehead, though, he'll be shocked and mildly disturbed.
